How to Fix Linksys Extender Connected But No internet issue

The first thing you need to understand is that your Linksys extender has two networks. One, the local extender network, and two, the internet connection that it facilitates for web access. Merely connecting to the local network doesn’t mean that you have internet access. To use the internet, you are supposed to have an active internet connection. And, if that isn’t available, you are likely to face internet connectivity issues. This blog will walk you through the steps to fix the ‘Linksys Extender Connected But No Internet’ issue in no time.

What’s important?

Before you proceed with the troubleshooting steps, let’s understand how an extender works. Your Linksys extender works by receiving signals from your router and then conveying them further to locations where internet coverage is low. Once you have made the two devices in sync with each other, you can connect your devices to the extender network. Having said that, it is important to note that the internet will only work once the extender is able to access the router’s internet network. If there’s something preventing that from happening, you will get issues with the internet access. You will indeed be able to connect to the extender network, but you won’t be able to access the internet through that. This in turn will make you face the said issue.

Resolving internet connection related issues

Troubleshooting issues with the internet access will involve following a series of steps. Here are some steps you can follow to eliminate internet access issues effectively:

Check the status of internet connection

If the internet server is down, no matter if you are connected to the local network, you won’t be able to connect to the web. Also, check if the data subscription is active or not. Consider contacting your ISP to confirm if the server has issues. In that case, you’ll need to wait while the ISP tries to fix the issue.

Restart/Power cycle the wifi extender and router

Bugs with the hardware or software can cause issues with the internet access as well. To make sure that doesn’t happen, you can consider rebooting your wifi router and extender devices. Turn them off and allow them to stay in this state for about 30 seconds. Reboot them after 30 seconds and check if the internet is working or not.

Check the credentials you are using

Your extender can only work with the internet connection of your wireless router if the passphrase you are using is correct. If you have entered the wrong passphrase to connect to the internet, you won’t be able to access the internet. Make sure you are using the correct password to connect to the extender network.

Check if MAC filters are enabled on your router

If your main router has the MAC filters enabled, your extender will need special permissions to connect to the extender network. You’ll need to list the MAC address of your extender in the Allowed MAC addresses list by logging in to your router setup wizard. Once you have done that, try to connect to the internet again. If you still face issues connecting to the internet, disable the MAC filter and reconnect to the network.
